Richard

What’s your background?

I have over 30 years’ experience in senior roles in the NZ investment and trustee industry advising individuals, institutions and trusts on investment strategy and portfolio management.

My most recent corporate role was as Chief Investment Officer at a private equity company, Gould Holdings Ltd. I have been the Independent Adviser – Portfolio Review Committee for Public Trust, a NZ Crown Entity, as well as being an expert witness in court cases regarding investment management. Where appropriate, I also act as a professional director or trustee.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I particularly enjoy the real sense of satisfaction that comes from helping people deal with complex situations. Often these are things that have been causing them a lot of worry and sleepless nights, so it’s is hugely rewarding to see the sense of relief once we are able to help them find a solution.

What qualities make you well suited to this position?

I have specialist expertise in advising trustees on investment strategy and management. I also specialise in UK Pension Transfers and complex investment planning situations. With my professional background, years of experience and ability to relate to people I bring a real cross-section of relevant areas of expertise which can be used to benefit all our clients.

What do you love most about being part of Cambridge Partners?

I really enjoy the excitement and interaction of working with a group of like-minded people, and being in a position to draw on the expertise of others, and also share my own areas of expertise in return. I am particularly pleased with the way the design and layout of our new offices has encouraged even greater interaction and sharing of ideas.

How should people think about their money?

Money can cause stress for so many reasons, and often a lot of that stress can be alleviated by obtaining the right advice, working through the issues with a trusted adviser, and developing a clear and sensible plan.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work hours?

I really enjoy sailing and tennis, and spending time with my family and friends. I’m also currently learning Italian.
